An Nuacht – 2nd October 2014

The school council met for the first time this term. They got a chance to meet each other and have gone back to talk to their classes about plans for the year.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on our website www.limerickschoolproject.ie for photos, news etc.

On Monday 29th September, 6th class got an invitation to visit to the milk market to see the President receive the Freedom Scroll for Limerick. Sixth class was chosen to attend as a result of their involvement in Ann-Marie Morrins art project, (their art is displayed in Todd’s bow). We were chosen from 120 projects and we were delighted and surprised when we got the invitation. Other politicians gave speeches and everyone stood up when the President went on stage, he said in his speech that he was honoured to speak in front of the crowd and sign the Scroll of Freedom of Limerick. Kieran from 6th met the President, and Isobel also from 6th gave Sabina, the President’s wife a bouquet of flowers. You can see the photos on the schools website.

SPEAK UP KIDS – SALON DU CHAT GIVES KIDS A VOICE

In a world where children are told to be quiet and listen, Salon du Chat creates a place where children have their say. The first ever Salon du Chat for kids is happening in Limerick on Saturday 11th October in 69 O’Connell Street as part of the Buladh Bos Children’s Festival.

Aimed at children in 4th, 5th and 6th class Salon du Chat creates an informal and relaxed environment for children to chat with their peers about their ideas and opinions. The children will be welcomed into a cafe, seated in small groups of 3 – 4 and given a cookie, a drink (milk or juice) and a menu. From the menu they will choose as a group what they want to talk about. Then with the help of a young facilitator they will spend the next 30 – 40 minutes, chatting and listening to each other.

The menu has been specially tailored to suit the taste of the young audience, with input from teachers, children and parents. Examples of topics featuring on the menu are ‘How do you fake cry?’, ‘Making and breaking the rules’ and ‘What I would buy with a €1000’. Salon du Chat for kids is presented as part of the Buladh Bos Children’s Festival and is supported by Limerick City of Culture 2014.

Salon du Chat for kids takes place from 12pm – 1pm on Saturday 11th October in 69 O’Connell Street (formerly The Belltable). The cost is €3 per child (includes a drink and a cookie). Tickets can be booked by calling 061 774774 or online http://limetreetheatre.ticketsolve.com/shows/873521365/events

PTA News: Many Hands Make Light Work!

The Parent Teacher Association are still looking for parents and guardians to join the volunteer database. Please remember if you can contribute even a small amount of time to the many events (both fundraising and non-fundraising) that take place throughout the school year it would be most helpful. Volunteer numbers are low and the success of these events is dependent on volunteers and support.
All funds raised go back into events which further enhance all our children’s experience at Limerick School Project. Your cooperation is very much appreciated.

If you did not receive a form in your child’s school bag last week they are available at the front door of the school. Forms can be returned to the box by the front door. You can also send your details to pta.lsp@gmail.com
Also checkout www.limerickschoolproject.ie for regular updates on news and events
