Term 3 White Envelope Week (WEW) is coming, it will run from Monday 11th-Friday 15th May. Letters have gone home in school bags today. White Envelope Week (voluntary contributions) plays a very important role in maintaining our ongoing financial stability. We are sincerely grateful for any contribution, no matter how small. We receive only 60% of our annual spend from the Department of Education, and the generosity of parents over the many years has ensured we are able to continue to provide a well-rounded educational experience for all children

Nepalese Disaster Fund:

Thanks to the generosity of the parents, pupils and staff of LSP we have raised €450.12 towards the relief fund for Nepal. We have been told that our €1 will pay for bread and water for one person so we hope that our contribution will help some of the people affected by the earthquake in Nepal. Thank you to all who contributed to this worthy cause.

Book Festival Event:

As a follow on to our library trips, we have invited pupils to dress up as any book character they like on Friday 8th May. A hat, wig or any prop will do to link to a favourite book. This will take place between 10.30am and 12 noon. We will also facilitate a book swap during this event. Any pupil who wishes to swap a book can bring it in. Please explain to them that they will not get their own book back, but will get another book instead.

Plant & Cake Sale:

The plant and cake sale is coming up next Friday 15th May. Traditionally, the junior classes (junior & senior infants, first & second classes) as well as third class are asked to bake cakes and buns to sell that day. This is a reminder to include baking ingredients in your shopping this week. We will be delighted to accept any baking at all – buns, cakes or cookies.

Internet Safety Talk:

Reminder that internet safety talk with Dr Maureen Griffin will take place on Wednesday 3rd June. There will be crèche facilities available if there is enough interest. Please let us know in advance if you’d like to avail of the crèche. She will speak about social networking, online gaming, cyber-bullying, and mobile phone safety and will provide an overview of what is currently popular among students, what the potential dangers are and practical advice on how to protect children when they are online or using their mobile phone. The talk is not about blocking content online; it is more about teaching children how to be responsible when online, by making parents aware of the dangers and highlighting some practical tips. This could be the most important meeting that you attend this year.

First Holy Communion:

Congratulations to the LSP pupils who made their First Holy Communion last Saturday in St Joseph’s Church. They all looked so happy and excited to be celebrating this special occasion for them and their families.

Best wishes to 6th class children who will be making their Confirmation on Sunday 10th May.

UL Sports Kids Run

Congratulations to many of our LSP pupils who completed the UL run on Saturday last. We saw the beautiful medals they all got and we know there are definitely running champions in the making in our school today.

Testing

Standardized Testing begins on Thursday 14th May and will continue until the end of May. Please ensure absences are kept to a minimum during this time in particular.

We are delighted to get our third Green Flag for water. We all worked very hard to get it. Remember to keep saving water at home. Suzanne (third class)
