Rabiya Ali, mother of Zoha, 6th class and Yusha, 3rd class spent all day on Tuesday 15th talking to the children about refugees. The difference between migrants and refugees was explained very clearly and we all learned something. We really appreciate the effort Rabiya put in to engage the pupils in all the classes, explain using diagrams and simple sentences and show pictures of children just like the children here in LSP.

Thank you Rabiya from the staff and pupils of LSP.

Maybe you’d like to help in a similar way? If you have an interest or extra information on any curricular topic, that you would like to share with our children please let us know.

Parent Teacher Association AGM

The PTA AGM will be held on Thursday 24th at 7pm in the school Halla. It is important that there is a good representation of the parental community at the meeting as it is a chance for parents to get insight into what it is the PTA does, what it has done over the last year, and how it has raised and spent its funding.

At the AGM there will be an opportunity for parents to put themselves forward to help out with the PTA as a committee member.

The committee meets monthly across the school year and is the representative body for the parental community within the structure of the school. It liaises with the Board of Management, the Principal and staff, and the parental community in going about organising numerous events across the school year. Key to its working practices is to both further the level of parental involvement in the school and to add to the extra-curricular activities that the children engage in.

Tea and coffee will also be served.

If you would like to put yourself forward for to be on the committee you need to be present at the AGM.

Ratification of PTA constitution

Over the last year the present PTA committee has been busy putting together a working constitutional document outlying the means for which the PTA can and should operate. This document will be put forward at the AGM for ratification by the parental body. The working document is available to be read online on the school website under the parent teacher association link. Hard copies will also be available to read in the foyer of the school from tomorrow onwards. We would ask that people have a read and bring any point of interest to the AGM for discussion.

Note for your diary

On Tuesday 13th October at 7pm the PTA have organised for a talk to be given by a National Parents Council Trainer titled “Supporting parents to support their children’s mental health and wellbeing”. Further details will be published nearer the date. There will be crèche facilities on the night in case parents need children minded.
