Fun with Tangrams in Third

We’ve been learning about shape and area in maths.  We read the story ‘Grandfather Tang’ written by Ann Tompert and illustrated by Robert Andrew Parker.  The tale is told using tangrams. The two main characters are grandfather and granddaughter. The little girl requests her grandfather to tell a story so that they can both bring it to life with their tangrams. After the story we worked with tangrams in class.

We started by making squares, using all seven tangram pieces.

We then tried to recreate the characters in the story using our tangram sets.  The class found this very enjoyable (and a tad frustrating at times!!).
