School Sports Day

What a great day we had in Mary I this year for Sports Day. It was a great sight seeing 220 children and 40 adults heading off to go sack racing, penalty shooting, hoola hut making, 3 legged racing, handballing and much more. Many thanks to all our parents and teachers who worked so hard to make it such a super day. Well done to all the older kids who helped their younger teammates in the challenges.

Don’t forget to return your EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST Forms for an Educate Together Secondary School for Limerick.

If you haven’t already had an opportunity to fill out an Expression of Interest form, forms will be sent home in school bags next week. Completed forms can be put in the labeled box in the school foyer.

Filling out a form is not a commitment to enroll your child but rather an opportunity to call for more choice when it comes to second level education in Limerick. Remember even children who have not started primary school yet can be included on the form.

If you would like more information or to expression your interest online go to www.let2ndlevel.com

Also check out the campaigns Facebook page, and we would be grateful if you could like and share it with your friends.

Animal Magic, the wild animal rescue centre from Kilmallock, visited LSP on Wednesday 10th June. All classes had a wonderful time learning about wild animals and birds and how to protect them. The excitement was palpable as many got the chance to handle a variety of different animals including: barn owls, long eared owls, dragon lizards, rabbits and a boa constrictor!

The pupils had completed an art project with Anne-Marie Morrins in 5th class and their work is on display in Todd’s bow, off William Street. Emily McNamara, on behalf of 6th class was presented with a book of their drawings at the launch. The class was shown on news2day on RTE last Monday 15th @ 5.30pm and Aoife Doyle, 6th is in a photo on the front of Tuesday’s Limerick Chronicle. Well done to all.

Post Office Savings Stamps

Our local post office in 90, Henry Street has offered to start a savings scheme ‘Saving with Cyril’ on a weekly basis. Melissa a parent of a past pupil will call weekly, on a Thursday, with the stamps and books. This is a great way to get children saving and is reminiscent of the Sammy Stamp saving scheme we had in the early days of the school. Any family wishing to avail of this service will need to open an account for the child in the post office beforehand. Documents needed will be the child’s birth cert, PPSN number and photo ID, utility bill and PPSN of parent. Any further questions will be answered in the Post Office, 90 Henry St. There are some post office account application forms available in the office. Please let Louise know if you are interested. Melissa will be in school again next Thursday.
