An Nuacht- 23rd April 2015

Volume 15, Issue 27

April 23rd, 2015

School is closed on Monday 4th & Tuesday 5th May.

We’ve had a great response to our plea for better timekeeping in the mornings. Thank you to all the parents and pupils who have made the effort to get to school on time. This has helped get the school day off to a good start with less interruption during class. We have discussed this at assembly and the pupils made their own suggestions as to how they could help themselves be organized in the mornings. We will be acknowledging the efforts of classes over the next few weeks. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

25th Anniversary Reunion

The LSP 25th Anniversary Reunion was held in the school hall on Saturday 18th April. The founding parents as well as many pupils and parents from the first few years of the school travelled from abroad as well as different parts of the country to meet and chat and remember the early days.

The hall was buzzing with past pupils, teachers and parents (past as well as present) while everyone enjoyed looking at old photos, roll books, brochures and memorabilia from 1989 to the present day. The present LSP staff was on hand to meet and chat and show people around the school.

Our school building was much admired and envied by those pupils and parents who attended LSP in Cecil Street.

It was great to see their pride and delight that the school has prospered and now caters for so many nationalities and cultures.

A great big thank you to all the LSP staff and parents who helped to decorate the hall, organise memorabilia and prepare for the event.

Please note that the date for the talk by Dr. Maureen Griffin, B.A. M.A. Ph.D Forensic Psychologist on Internet Safety has been changed to Wednesday June 3rd 2015.

There will be an LSP Community Meeting held on the same night before the talk. Crèche facilities will be provided if parents wish to avail of them and if we know in advance.

Dr. Maureen Griffin has been invited by our Board of Management to talk to our parents about Internet Safety. She will speak about social networking, online gaming, cyber-bullying, and mobile phone safety and will provide an overview of what is currently popular among students, what the potential dangers are and practical advice on how to protect children when they are online or using their mobile phone. The talk is not about blocking content online; it is more about teaching children how to be responsible when online, by making parents aware of the dangers and highlighting some practical tips.

This could be the most important meeting that you attend this year.

Please let us know if your child is not returning to school with us in September.

Over the last few months’ discussions have taken place between parents of both Limerick School Project NS and Limerick Educate Together NS (Mungret) regarding the setting up of a campaign to push for an Educate Together second level school in Limerick.  After two general meetings were held, a committee was recently formed and that committee has begun taking the steps to further the campaign. A key part of the strategy is making the parents of both school communities and the wider Limerick community aware that there is a community of parents in Limerick campaigning for a second level school for their kids.  Thus, the committee has set up a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/let2ndlevel/timeline  which we are asking people to LIKE and SHARE to their friends. The page will be used to post information regards the campaign.

We are also working on getting a website up and running and this should happen in the near future.  We will keep you updated.

Part and parcel of getting a campaign up and running is the need to fund it, thus we will be holding a quiz night in May (date to be announced soon) and we would ask that those interested support the night.

If you are interested in helping out in the campaign or have any queries you can email the committee at let2ndlevel@gmail.com

Christmas Jumper Day!

The school council organised a charity fundraiser for children availing of the services of Enable Ireland. Children were asked to bring in €2 and wear something festive. We think we did a great job and look very impressive!

Check out our selfie or ELFie! These are some photos on display in the foyer of the school too.
