Third Class’ Thoughts on Mindfulness

“I like the glitter jar because it is relaxing when I have lots of thoughts going on in my mind”. Olive

“I liked the exercise in mindfulness when we tightened all our joints because it felt very relaxing after you untightened them. I would use this exercise for when I am trying to get to sleep”. Sam

Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Mindfulness Lesson

Today pupils from 3rd to 6th class took part in an online mindfulness session, organised by Walk in My Shoes and St Patrick’s University Hospital.  Pupils on the junior side of the school, infants to second class, also took part using an adapted version of the online session.  All children in LSP took part in mindfulness today.


Walk in My Shoes Radio, Ireland’s only all-digital pop-up radio station, was launched  by a host of mental health advocates, celebrity ambassadors and well-known presenters. The station will broadcast live from St Patrick’s University Hospital from Monday 10th – Friday 14th October to mark World Mental Health Awareness Week. It is the only pop-up radio station dedicated to promoting positive mental health.

This year, Walk in My Shoes Radio is looking to set the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Mindfulness Lesson and called on all secondary schools, and those in 5th and 6th classes in primary schools, to join in setting the record on World Mental Health Awareness Day, the station’s first day on air, Monday the 10th October.


LSP and all participating schools are attempting  to set the world record with a national 30 minute mindfulness lesson, which took place this morning,10th October.
The mindfulness class was taught by a mindfulness practitioner in the lecture hall at St Patrick’s University Hospital and the 30 minute class was broadcast as a Google Hangout connecting participating schools all over the country.


We thoroughly enjoyed being part of the experience and all the work with Donna on mindfulness over the past number of weeks definitely helped us today.  We are learning a lot from her sessions and it is something we hope to continue practising in our school when Donna’s time with us is over. We are very thankful to the P.T.A for having funded the mindfulness sessions we have had since our return to school in September.
