Parenting: Supporting your child to build healthy friendships and relationships. Series of 3 FREE workshops run by National Parents Council and coordinated by LSP Parent teacher Association.
Details on these workshops are below and anyone interested can book with Louise by paying 10.00 deposit to hold a place which is refundable on the first night.
The Relationships and Sexuality Program module (RSE) is an integral part of the social, personal and Health education (SPHE) program. The RSE program is taught across all classes in the school. This workshop is for parents and they get a chance to engage with the material of the program. The course involves three consecutive workshops over three weeks and people can only join in at the first workshop and are asked to complete the three in order to get as full an experience as possible out of it.
This is a very worthwhile course to do and gives you the chance to engage with the material that your child/children will be engaging with in the classroom.
The course will be held by the National Parents Council trainers
Delivered over three two and half hour sessions, this module helps parents have a better knowledge of Relationships and Sexuality education so that they can talk to their children and foster their children’s self-esteem and decision making skills in this important area of their lives. The sessions mirror the curriculum taught in schools.
Some of the topics covered in the training are:
Expectations and understanding of RSE for children
Speaking and listening – communication skills
Self Esteem – a time for parents to reflect on their own self-esteem and how this might influence the way in which they relate to their children
Childhood experiences – how we as parents learned about RSE
The media and ourselves
The process of change – physical and psychological changes at puberty
The language to use – parents explore the complexities of language in regards to sexuality
Parents and School – RSE programme in schools – familiarising parents with the RSE programme.
*Unfortunately there will not be crèche facilities provided
Community Gathering: Coffee (or tea!) and a chat on Friday 29th April from 8:30am to 10am. After you drop the children off to school meet other parents for a quick coffee or tea and a chat. There will be some great tasting coffee (we promise it’s not instant) on the brew, or some tea (we even have herbal) and a nice chance to meet some of the other parents for a chat.
Hope to see you there!
This free event is hosted by the LSP Parent Teacher Association.
