June 18 2015

Fun in the sun.

School will close at 12 noon on Friday 26th June & will re-open on Thursday 27th August.

There is no after school basketball next Monday or Tuesday.

Any outstanding library books will be collected by Library next week.

The school council wishes to announce ‘The LSP Variety Show 2015’ which will be held on Wednesday 24th June at 9.00am. Each class will be represented by 2 variety acts. These acts have been voted on by the class members. We look forward to singing, dancing, music, magic and comedy and most of all, a happy get together.

Reports will be posted on Monday 22nd June. Please ensure you have sent in a large stamped addressed envelope.

Please let us know as soon as possible if your child won’t be returning to LSP in September.

Dooradoyle branch Library, Crescent Shopping Centre is holding a Reading Challenge to keep children for all ages reading throughout the summer break. The aim of the reading challenge is to read 10 books throughout the summer holidays. On completion the children will receive a certificate and a small gift.

We urgently need volunteers to help make LSP’s 25th year celebratory YARD PARTY a success.

Volunteers needed from 10am to help prepare for the party which begins at 11am this Friday,  June 19th and will run until 1pm.

If you can help please email pta.lsp@gmail.com, or turn up on Friday at 10am.

This celebration is for all the children at LSP and will include a variety of entertainers, games and treats.

Please Note: Friday Lunch. All the children will get a food bag at the yard party on Friday 19th June. Therefore, if you wish, only pack a lunch for their small break.

Please return your Expression of Interest forms for an Educate Together Secondary School for Limerick.

Forms were sent home in all schoolbags this week.

Completed forms can be put in the labeled box in the school foyer.

Filling out a form is not a commitment to enroll your child but rather an opportunity to call for more choice when it comes to second level education in limerick. Remember even children who have not started primary school yet can be included on the form.

If you would like more information or to express your interest online go to www.let2ndlevel.com

Also check out the campaigns Facebook page, and we would be grateful if you could like and share it with your friends.

The next Parent Teacher Association AGM will take place on Thursday 24th September.

Please find in your child’s schoolbag a leaflet that highlights what the Parent Teacher Association has been up to this year. We are always looking for more help, talent and skills to add to the Parent Teacher Association. Every bit of help, no matter how small, enhances all our children’s experience at LSP.

Winter fair

A huge thank you to the PTA from the staff and children of the LSP for the fantastic Winter Fair last Sunday. It was great to see so many new parents helping in so many different ways.. It was a lovely, happy day for children and adults and this was, in no small way, due to all the hard work put in by the PTA and the many volunteers involved.

The Parent Teacher Association committee would like to extend its thanks to all the people involved in making the Winter fair a great success.  This success is down to the whole school community – the parents/guardians, teachers and school staff, the afterschool/crèche, and the children – working together in partnership.  There was tremendous support given to the PTA committee in the run up to the fair regards organizing the various aspects of the fair.  A cohort of parents did excellent work last Friday morning making Christmas wreaths and painting the school windows. Likewise the parents who worked with the children making the class crafts did tremendous work – the crafts that were made would not look out of place in any craft shop. On the day itself there was no shortage of people lending support in setting up the fair, working at the various stalls and then helping to get the school back into shape for the children again on Monday morning. The music on the day kept everyone in a festive mood and our MC for the Raffle did a great job. Thank you to all those who donated all the wonderful baked goods and delicacies. Lastly a big thank you to all the people that turned up on the day and supported the fair and most importantly helped to raise vital funds which will go towards extracurricular activities for all the children at LSP.  We hope you had a good time and enjoyed yourself.

Best Wishes
The PTA Committee

N.B. Plates and dishes can be collected outside the school staffroom.

Check out the LSP website for photos of the day. www.limerickschoolproject.ie

Spare clothes

We keep spare children’s clothes available in case of accidents/ heavy showers etc.

We are delighted to be able to offer them when necessary but must insist that they are washed and returned as soon as possible afterwards.

A huge congratulations to Emily McNamara in 6th class who represented the LSP in the Munster Schools Swimming competition recently. Emily says:”Last weekend, I represented my school in the Munster schools’ competition. I qualified for the Irish National Schools competition which will take place in February 2015.” Well done Emily.

Christmas Jumper for Charity

Next Thursday 18th December the School Council is asking everyone to take part in their fundraiser for Enable Ireland children’s Services.

They want everybody to wear a Christmas jumper (or a jumper in a festive colour) and pay €2 towards this charity. There is no need to buy a jumper – just decorate one to look festive. All the money will go to the local Enable Ireland Children’s Services on the Dock road, where some LSP children avail of their services.

Don’t forget your €2 next Thursday!

We are hoping to update the flags in the foyer, please let Louise or your child’s class teacher know if your country isn’t included.
