For our Different Families, Same Love project this year we looked at a poster all about Family and discussed the many different types of families in our society today. We also read and discussed the book The Great Big Book of Families by Mary Hoffmann. We read and discussed other books like 10,000 Dresses by Marcus Ewert and Pride - the Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag. This lead to a discussion about the different genders and identities we have today and the proper definitions for them and the flags associated with them... which we wrote and drew in our copies. We also looked at videos of Harvey Milk and his famous speech.
The children then worked in solo/small groups to create their projects which were then shared with the class. Some people made posters, others made a comic, wordsearch, slideshow, and even a song... !
