“Frogs, Fairness, and the 32 Counties – 6th Class in Action!”

“Frogs, Fairness, and the 32 Counties – 6th Class in Action!”

6th Class have been busy this term exploring the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We discussed the many rights and discussed which ones we felt were especially important for our own class community, through a vote. After thoughtful conversations, the children chose a selection of articles to focus on, ones that reflect kindness, fairness, respect, and the right to learn.

To bring this to life in our classroom, we decided to create a visual display. Each child decorated and signed a frog to represent themselves, and together the frogs sit proudly on a log. Around them, lily pads highlight the key articles we chose – a reminder that our class community is made up of individuals who each have rights, responsibilities, and a place to belong.

We’ve also been strengthening our knowledge of Irish geography. Instead of simply memorising the 32 counties, the children engaged in creative and active learning: completing county jigsaws, playing “guess the county” card games, making colourful research posters, reciting a poem, marking maps, and even trying out online interactive games. These activities helped the counties of Ireland come alive and made learning both fun and memorable.
