Intercultural Day & Global Education
It has been a very busy and enjoyable time in our classroom over the past few weeks. We celebrated Intercultural Day in school, and it was a wonderful opportunity for students to share food from their cultures and learn more about each other’s traditions and backgrounds. There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the school, and it was a lovely way to celebrate the diversity in our school community.
We were also very lucky to have students from Mary Immaculate College visit our classroom to teach us about Global Education. We learned about the importance of understanding the wider world, fairness, equality, and the challenges many people face around the globe. This linked in perfectly with the Trócaire Game Changers competition that we have been working so hard on.
As part of the competition, the class has been designing and creating their own games based on global issues. The games explore important topics such as gender inequality, war and inequality, access to clean water, deforestation, and poor working conditions around the world. The students have been working in groups, showing great teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
There has been a great buzz in the classroom as groups planned, designed, and tested their games — and most importantly, had lots of fun along the way!
We are very proud of the effort and enthusiasm everyone has shown, and we are looking forward to submitting our games to the competition.
