31 pupils from LSP's After School Chess Club had a wonderful day at Lá Fichille, a fun and inclusive nationwide chess day that promotes the playing of chess in schools for the social and cognitive benefits it has for students. There are 150 events taking place this term with over 14,000 children in schools taking part.
Excitement levels were high as we took the bus to Scoil Íde to join up with five other schools. 111 children in total took part in six chess matches over the course of the day, having great fun and forging new friendships over the boards. Well done to all the pupils of the Chess Club who wore the school colours and represented LSP so well!
Recently they created and recorded a podcast for a competition in the hopes of winning chess resources for our school. In the podcast they talk about chess, chess history, interviews with other chess club members, tell chess jokes and ask chess questions. Well done to all those involved! They also had a mini chess tournament online and a party to celebrate the last day of chess club for the year!
